Biblical Love & Romance: Finding a Christian Mate

God blesses people with children so they will raise them in godliness:

Genesis 18:18a,19 Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation... For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do justice and judgment.

Cling to the Lord and follow his ways to have life for yourself and your children:

Deuteronomy 30:15-20a See, I have set before you this day life and good, and death and evil. In that I command you this day to love the LORD your God, to walk in his ways, and to keep his commandments and his statutes and his judgments, that you may live and multiply. And the LORD your God will bless you in the land you go to possess. But if your heart turns away, so that you will not hear but shall be drawn away, and worship other gods, and serve them, I denounce unto you this day, that you will surely perish, and that you will not prolong your days upon the land, which you pass over Jordan to go possess. I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live. That you may love the LORD your God, and that you may obey his voice, and that you may cling unto him; for he is your life, and the length of your days.

Our loyalty to God is greatly rewarded:

Psalms 128:1-4 Blessed is every one that fears the LORD; that walks in His ways. For you shall eat the labor of your hands: happy shall you be, and it shall be well with you. Your wife shall be as a fruitful vine by the sides of your house: your children like olive plants round about your table. Behold, that thus shall the man be blessed who fears the LORD.

Be very careful about who you marry! You'll have to live with them for your whole life!

Proverbs 12:4 A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband, but she that makes shame is as rottenness in his bones.

The Lord gives a spouse to who he is pleased with, but promiscuity to those who don't have his favor:

Proverbs 18:22 Whoever finds a wife finds a good thing, and obtains favor of the LORD.

Proverbs 19:14 House and riches are the inheritance of fathers, and a prudent wife is from the LORD.

Proverbs 22:14 The mouth of strange women is a deep pit. He that is abhorred of the LORD shall fall in it.

Don't be hateful:

Proverbs 30:21-23 (TEV) There are four things that the earth itself cannot tolerate: a slave who becomes a king, a fool who has all he wants to eat, a hateful woman who gets married, and a servant girl who takes the place of her mistress.

Wise words for those of you looking for that special someone:

Proverbs 31:30 Favor is deceitful, and beauty is vain. But a woman that fears the LORD, she shall be praised.

Ask the Father for a mate who will bear much good fruit and glorify the Father together with you more than either of you could on your own.

John 15:1-5,7-8 I (Jesus) am the vine, you are the branches. He that abides in me, and I in him, the same brings forth much fruit; for without me you can do nothing. If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, you shall ask what you will, and it shall be done unto you. Herein is my Father glorified, that you bear much fruit; so shall you be my disciples.

There is no shame in waiting on the Lord for his timing in his plans. While waiting for a mate, let your singleness work for the Lord.

Romans 5:3-5 We glory in tribulation also, knowing that tribulation works patience; and patience, experience; and experience, hope. And hope does not make shame, because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.

Flee from sexual immorality (fornication); wait until marriage for sex, for your body belongs to the Lord

1 Corinthians 6:12,13,18-20 All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient; all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any. Meats for the belly, and the belly for meats; but God shall destroy both it and them. Now the body is not for fornication, but for the Lord; and the Lord for the body. Flee fornication. Every sin that a man does is outside the body; but he that commits fornication sins against his own body. What? Do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which you have from God, and you are not your own? For you are bought with a price; therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.

Ask God with thanks and don't worry:

Philippians 4:6,7 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Marital sex is pure, but sex outside of marriage is a mortal danger (see also proverbs chapter 5):

Hebrews 13:4 Marriage is honorable in all, and the bed undefiled. But whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.

Stay pure by following God's word:
